Come to the Visitor Centre for an exciting evening all about bats! Our fuzzy, flying, friends are fast, elusive and hard to find, special guest Alex Israel will be delivering a Bat Talk focused on Ontario’s elusive flying mammals followed by a roost emergence viewing at a bat roost in the park! With years of research experience working with the Toronto Zoo, Alex has been monitoring bat populations in the park for years.

The presentation will run from 7:30pm – 8:15pm at the Visitor Centre, the emergence viewing will begin around 9pm at the Gatehouse. Transportation between locations is not provided.

Special guest Scales Nature Park will be putting on a live reptile show from 1pm-2pm at the Visitor Centre Amphitheatre. Arrive early as space is limited, regular Park Day Use or Overnight fees apply; to reduce stress on the animals no dogs are permitted at this event.

Join us for a day of surveying for butterflies! Hike trails in the park alongside Park Staff while we participate in the annual North American Butterfly Associations Butterfly Count. Contribute to a long-standing data collection project that helps inform the scientific community on butterfly populations across the continent! In the event of bad weather the count will be rescheduled to July 5th.

Not only that, in Ojibwe culture the butterfly has a spirit-Memengwaa. Cast your thoughts to reach out to Memengwaa. The butterfly silently listens, and its spirit travels along, carrying your wishes and dreams. This poetic non-fiction book blends lifecycle facts with Ojibwe beliefs about the monarch butterfly.
