Reservations - Penalties

Changing or cancelling your reservation?

If you wish to change or cancel a reservation:

  • go to OntarioParks.ca/reservations and sign-into your account
  • contact a reservations agent at 1-888-ONT-PARK (1-888-668-7275)

Camping reservations cannot be changed or cancelled more than 4 months in advance of your arrival.

All advance daily vehicle permit sales are final and date/location changes are not permitted. If cancelling, all fees are forfeited.

Making a change to your camping reservation?

An administration fee of:

  • $7.52 + HST for changes made online
  • $9.29 + HST for changes made by phone

will apply to the following changes:

  • a change to a campsite number (e.g., new site in the same park)
  • a change in the permit holder
  • a change to reservation dates

There is no administration fee for:

  • changing personal information such as address, vehicle licence plate, etc.
  • extending an existing reservation (please note: the appropriate percentage penalty is applied when shortening an existing reservation – see cancelling or shortening your reservation below)

Cancelling or shortening a campsite, roofed accommodation, group camping or day use facility (e.g., picnic shelter) reservation?

If you cancel or shorten your stay before 12:00 pm Eastern Time on your arrival date, you will be charged a 10-50% penalty fee on the total value of the cancelled or shortened nights. If you cancel after 12:00 pm Eastern Time on your arrival date, a 1-night penalty + the percentage penalty will apply. The percentage penalty is based on how long your reservation has been held:

Reservation held Penalty fee
1 month or less = 10% of total campsite fees paid at reservation
Greater than 1 month up to 2 months = 20% of total campsite fees paid at reservation
Greater than 2 months up to 3 months = 30% of total campsite fees paid at reservation
Greater than 3 months up to 4 months = 40% of total campsite fees paid at reservation
Greater than 4 months = 50% of total campsite fees paid at reservation

Refund = [fees paid at reservation (excluding reservation fee and HST)] – penalty fee

The minimum fee for shortening or cancelling a reservation is:

  • $9.29 + HST through the call centre or in park
  • $7.52 + HST online

Cancelling or shortening your backcountry reservation?

If you cancel or shorten a backcountry reservation before the arrival date you will be charged a penalty. The percentage penalty is based on how long your reservation has been held:

Greater than 1 month up to 2 months $10.00 +HST
Greater than 2 months up to 3 months $15.00 +HST
Greater than 3 months up to 4 months $20.00 + HST
Greater than 4 months $25.00 + HST

Refund = [fees paid at reservation (excluding reservation fee and HST)] – penalty fee

For reservations where the total fees paid at reservation (excluding reservation fee and HST) are less than $25, the penalty would be the full value of the reservation – no additional penalty applied.

Cancelling or shortening your overnight stay once you’ve arrived?

After you have arrived and checked-in at the park, if you shorten your stay before 12:00 pm on the day of departure you will receive a full refund on all unused nights.

A refund will not be issued for early departures from roofed accommodations with nightly minimums.

Cancelling a seasonal campsite reservation?

Seasonal campsite reservations may be cancelled anytime from the date they were made up until the first operating dates. A cancelation penalty will be charged. The percentage penalty is based on how far the cancellation is made in advance of the park operating date:

Cancellation made Penalty fee
Within 1 month of the park operating date = 50% of total campsite fees paid at reservation
Between 1 month up to 2 months of the operating date = 40% of total campsite fees paid at reservation
Between 2 months up to 3 months of the operating date = 30% of total campsite fees paid at reservation
Between 3 months up to 4 months of the operating date = 20% of total campsite fees paid at reservation
Greater than 4 months from the operating date = 10% of total campsite fees paid at reservation

Refund = [fees paid at reservation (excluding reservation fee and HST)] minus penalty fee
Seasonal campsite reservations cannot be cancelled after the park opens for the season (note: the first operating date differs by park).

Changing a seasonal campsite reservation?

Seasonal campsite reservations may make the following changes: change of permit holder name, party size, equipment type, or change to another seasonal campsite in the same park. Changes to a regular campsite or other resource type (i.e. roofed accommodations, backcountry, etc.) are not permitted.

Prorated refunds will not be provided for any early departures.
