What You'll Like:
- Solace Provincial Park encompasses a chain of narrow, scenic lakes that are parallel and oriented north to south, lying between a series of forest-covered ridges. The forest in this corner of Temagami is more Boreal, dominated by Jack Pine, Black Spruce, and Trembling Aspen.
- Canoeing opportunities are lake-to-lake with rugged portages in between.
- The park is connected to Lady Evelyn-Smoothwater, the Sturgeon River, and other waterways on Crown lands via portages and waterways. Solace is sometimes used to link other routes, or as a fly-in canoeing destination of its own.
- Temagami’s backcountry parks provide a remote wilderness experience, protect over 100,000ha, and provide roughly 600km of interconnected canoe routes.
- Located in the heart of the Temagami region, Solace is connected to a 2400km canoeing network consisting of Parks, Conservation Reserves, and Crown lands.
- The region’s canoe routes traverse some of the most rugged landscapes in Northern Ontario – 4 of the province’s highest peaks are in Temagami’s backcountry parks.
- The area’s rich Indigenous heritage dates back at least 10,000 years, and canoeists travel on ancient portages or “nastawgan”.
