Pedal the Savanna Bike Trail with Park Naturalists and learn about Pinery's Oak Savanna and some of its inhabitants. Rent one of our bikes or bring your own. The bike hike will be leaving at 10:00 AM from the rentals building. If you are renting a bike, please allow time to stand in line.

Many visitors are familiar with mosquitoes and ticks, but few realize that there are many other parasites that can be found in the park. Join a Park Naturalist at the Park Store to learn about the fascinating world of parasites, including ticks, worms, mites, and microscopic organisms!

The life of a caterpillar is by no means an easy one! Join a Park Naturalist at the entrance of the Cedar Trail to learn the tricks they use to disguise and defend themselves in order to dodge predators until they can reach the next life stage.

Sunsets over Lake Huron at Pinery are renowned for their majestic beauty. The beaches and dunes of Pinery are also dynamic ecosystems that house rare species, enchanting us in other ways. Find inspiration as you walk along the beach with a Park Naturalist to explore the landscape, then merge art and science by painting as the sun sets over the lake. Supplies are limited and may need to be shared among participants. This program is intended for adults, although all are welcome. Meet at P9 picnic pavilion.

Did you know there are 10 distinct types of bird nests? Hike the Heritage trail and find a Park Naturalist at the second fork to explore the diverse strategies birds use to protect their eggs. Decide for yourself which nest is best! Take the left at the start of the trail for easy access.

Green, red, brown, and blue – what do these colours tell you? From warning colours to clever camouflage, every shade in Pinery’s Oak Savanna and Dune ecosystems has a job to do. Join a Park Naturalist for this one-hour guided hike through Pinery’s vibrant ecosystems and discover how colour helps plants, animals, and fungi survive and thrive. Located on the Heritage Trail.

Take time to slow down and find gratitude through nature journaling, whether that be writing or painting (limited watercolor supplies available). Walk to the Hickory Trail Lookout (250m from the entrance and right at the fork) to immerse yourself in something grounding. This is not a designated accessible trail, please be ready for hills and stairs.

It’s a nocturnal ecology party! Make your way to the Outdoor Amphitheatre to gain nighttime naturalist skills; Learn how to use bat detectors to hear echolocation, recognize nocturnal birds by their calls, and identify moths with your smartphone. Put these skills to use as we make across the channel and to the Moth Station near the Park Store, where the program will end. If you would like, get the party started early by downloading the free iNaturalist and Merlin apps before the program.
