Family Day is the perfect opportunity to get your loved ones outdoors for a winter adventure.
Here are some exciting happenings at Ontario Parks this Family Day Weekend (February 17-19):
Family Day — Sleeping Giant Provincial Park
Join park staff at Sleeping Giant this Family Day to enjoy some outdoor activities including ice skating with adjacent campfire, ice fishing (bring your gear), winter hiking/walking, cross-country skiing, and snowshoeing.
The visitor centre will be open from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
The skating loop is located by campsites 85-96. Parking is available in the campground for the day. The park gate will be closed and locked at 4:40 p.m.
Don’t forget to reserve your vehicle permit in advance!
Family Day Weekend — MacGregor Point Provincial Park
Ready for an action-packed weekend?
On Friday evening, join Discovery staff for a campfire from 6:00-7:00 p.m.
Saturday begins with an afternoon forest therapy walk at the Tower Trails certified Forest Therapy Trail (the first and only in Ontario Parks) by a certified forest therapy guide from GIFT!
An afternoon winter bird walk is also available along the Visitor Centre’s Huron Fringe Boardwalk.
On Sunday, join staff in the Visitor Centre parking lot for the Amazing Race! Teams will compete against the clock to complete stations. The winner will receive a prize!
Limited spaces are available per program. Self-led winter activities are also available outside the Visitor Centre on Saturday and Sunday.
Don’t forget to bring your cross-country skis, snowshoes and skates! Check the Snow Report for conditions.
Winter in the Wild — Algonquin Provincial Park
Winter at Algonquin is unforgettable, and Winter in the Wild highlights the best of what the season has to offer the whole family!
Join Ontario Parks and the Friends of Algonquin Park for indoor and outdoor events.

Family Day — Bronte Creek Provincial Park
Spend an enjoyable day explore the park trails, barns, and outdoor play equipment.
The play barn (for children 10 years and under) will be open from 9:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m.
Visit the children’s farm with a variety of animals, search for the park’s Gnome Road, or climb to the top of the toboggan hill and marvel at the vista from the ravine scenic lookout!
Don’t forget disc golfing, endless opportunities for winter birding and photography, and self-led Adventure Lab hike!
Winter Weekend — Killarney Provincial Park
The Friends of Killarney Park are hosting their annual Winter Weekend with fun activities for the whole family!
Killarney has 30 km of groomed cross country ski trails and snowshoeing on trails like Granite Ridge, providing a whole new way to see the park!

Fire and Stars Hikes — Sibbald Point Provincial Park
Visit Sibbald Point this winter for an evening journey along the Maidenhair Fern Trail, lit only by fire and the stars.
Hike between the hours of 6:30-9:30 p.m. on your own or join a guided hike led by Discovery staff beginning at 6:30 p.m. This journey takes approximately 1 – 1.5 hours to complete dependent on your hiking pace.
Staff recommend bringing your own snowshoes, but they are optional depending on amount of snow fall. Be sure to check the Snow Report before you arrive!
Family Fishing Weekend
Did you know Canadians can fish licence-free from February 17-19, 2024? What a great time to introduce your family to ice fishing! Find an event near you.
Safety should always be number one. Remember: ice does not freeze at a uniform thickness. Always dress for the weather and layer up.
Make sure you obey the rules and regulations of the body of water you’re fishing on too!
